Regional Groups

IACD is an association of associations and we welcome connections to existing regional, national or local networks. Where there are no existing community development associations, IACD encourages the formation of local groups, or networks of people and organisations that support this vision in their local regions and communities.

Do you have an active community development association in your nation or region?

If so, existing organisations can be strengthened with links to IACD.IACD is an association of associations which welcomes connections to the existing regional, national or local networks that have emerged in the past 40 years. These provide important venues for meetings, publications and the exchange of ideas about our changing field.We also welcome reciprocal membership arrangements with other networks, as IACD is relevant when it cooperates with our sister community development associations to:

  1. Provide common meeting spaces at IACD biennial conferences to include panels, papers and leading speakers from various international, national and regional community development associations; we seek the involvement of other associations to design our meetings.
  2. Urge national and regional organisations to nominate members for our board of directors and committees. We are also willing to reciprocate and nominate IACD members to serve on other boards or committees;
  3. Co-sponsor events and publications with other community development associations;
  4. Explore new possibilities with sister organisations to expand the influence of community development at the global, national and regional level.
  5. Promote websites of sister international, national and regional community development organisations on the IACD web

For further information about membership costs and benefits see our membership page.

If there is no national or regional network in your country, you may like to consider forming a local IACD group.

Where there are no existing community development associations, IACD encourages the formation of local groups, or networks of people and organisations that support this vision in their local regions and communities.Local groups can support community development practice, and provide a space for learning and action. Networks are not necessarily constituted bodies – your group can become affiliated with IACD without being constituted in its’ own right. We don’t want to replace or devalue existing organisations or further fragment our field. In such cases, we prefer to promote the existing organisation with reciprocal agreements that honour the integrity of the sister organisation and the IACD.PDF DocumentSee the new Local Groups Handbook (715 Kb PDF) for more information on how to start a local IACD group.
